The invention discloses an idle control method and an idle control device for an electric vehicle, and relates to the technical field of entire vehicle control of the electric vehicle. The idle control method comprises the following steps of judging whether the electric vehicle needs to enter an idle mode or not according to a vehicle speed signal and a vehicle control signal during running of the electric vehicle; acquiring idle control driving torque according to the vehicle speed signal when the state that the electric vehicle needs to enter in the idle mode is judged; controlling the vehicle speed of the electric vehicle according to the idle driving torque to enable the current vehicle speed of the electric vehicle to reach idle target vehicle speed. According to the idle control method and the idle control device disclosed by the invention, different idle modes are set according to different gears, and the driving torque of an extreme idle mode can be rapidly and accurately acquired, so that the current vehicle speed of the electric vehicle reaches the idle target vehicle speed.
