The invention provides a construction hoist control method and a frequency converter. The method comprises the steps that a control circuit inside the frequency converter receives a main contactor starting signal, and outputs a main contactor control signal to control a main contactor to be closed; the control circuit receives a diverter switch switching signal, and is switched to the cage interior operation or the cage roof operation according to the diverter switch switching signal; then, the control circuit receives a speed regulation signal generated during the cage interior operation or the cage roof operation and outputs a corresponding control signal to achieve running control over a construction hoist motor; a construction hoist electrical system is controlled with no independent PLC module or special controller in the prior art, and the problems that the size is large, the cost is high and the system reliability is low due to the independent PLC module or the special controller in the prior art are solved.
