The invention discloses a tandem type regenerating braking system for electric automobile and control method thereof. A vehicle control unit carries out a braking feedback control strategy to obtain a vehicle speed according to a vehicle speed sensor signal and calculate the maximum feedback torque; the vehicle control unit calculates a pedal depth according to a brake pedal sensor, and obtains the maximum useable feedback torque by referring to useable power state of a battery under the current state; the vehicle control unit sends the maximum useable feedback torque order to a motor controller, and the motor controller executes the order and sends an actual feedback torque order to the vehicle controller; the vehicle control unit sends the actual feedback torque to a brake system; the brake system distributes the brake force according to the actual feedback torque. The tandem type regenerating braking system for electric automobile and the control method thereof can reasonably distribute a point braking force and a mechanical braking force according to the actual vehicle condition of an electric automobile; moreover, the power storage battery is protected to the greatest degree.
