The invention provides a traffic situation assessment method, and the method comprises the steps: collecting initial information of various types of roads through various types of sensors; carrying out the value loss examination of initial information, and carrying out the restoration of lost data; carrying out the threshold examination or mechanism relation examination of the initial information and restoration information; determining a real-time maximum sensor connection group, and obtaining the mean traffic flow, mean speed and mean occupancy in the real-time maximum sensor connection group; determining the real-time traffic situation according to a real-time traffic event, a real-time vehicle queuing length, real-time travel time, a real-time driving distance, a real-time jam length, a restoration traffic event, a restoration vehicle queuing length, restoration travel time, a restoration driving distance, and a restoration jam length; and determining whether a compatible fusion method or a incompatible fusion method is employed for obtaining the prediction results of traffic situations according to the compatibility of the mean traffic flow, mean speed, mean occupancy and real-time traffic situation. The method is accurate in assessment, is higher in credibility, and can be widely used in the traffic field.
