The method comprises the following steps: S1, connectinga lumen detector; S2, judging whether the light intensity is not smaller than a preset threshold value or not; if yes, executing S3; otherwise, executing S5; S3, judging whether the current vehicle speed is not smaller than a first vehicle speed threshold value and whether the distance between the current vehicle and a front vehicle is not larger than a first length threshold value; if yes, sending out a warning; S4, judging whether the relative speed between the front vehicle and the current vehicle is not larger than a relative speed threshold value or not; if yes, controlling braking; otherwise, returning to S3; and S5, judging whether the current vehicle speed is not smaller than a second vehicle speed threshold value and whether the distance between the current vehicle and the frontvehicle is not larger than a second length threshold value; if yes, controlling braking; otherwise, executing S2. The adaptive cruise control method based on light intensity is simple and convenient,the performance is adjusted through the light lumen detector and the millimeter wave radar according to the lumen intensity, the safety is high, and the adaptive cruise control method can adapt to different weathers.
