The invention relates to a vehicle adaptive cruise technology. In one embodiment, the control device in the vehicle adaptive cruise comprises a required acceleration calculation module which calculates a required acceleration according to driving parameters of the vehicle, a control acceleration calculation module which is used for calculating a control acceleration according to the required acceleration, a target vehicle speed calculation module which calculates a target vehicle speed according to the control acceleration, an open-loop required torque calculation module which is used for calculating open-loop required torque according to the control acceleration, a closed-loop required torque calculation module which is used for calculating a closed-loop required torque according to the target vehicle speed, a torque control module which is used for controlling the engine output torque of the vehicle according to the sum of the open-loop required torque and the closed-loop required torque, a brake triggering module which is used for triggering a brake to brake when a brake triggering condition is met, and a brake release module which is used for stopping braking of the brake whenthe brake triggering condition is not met and the brake release condition is met.
