The method comprises the steps: collecting stress values of corresponding bridge beams when vehicles pass through a monitoring device; if the stress value is greater than a preset stress value, calculating a first weight W1 and a second weight W2 of the vehicle passing through the monitoring device according to an area method and a peak value method; determining the final weight W of the vehicle based on W1 and W2, and if W is larger than the preset weight, calculating the running speed V of the vehicle passing through the bridge, if the running speed V is smaller than the preset speed, calculating the time range of the vehicle entering the visual field of the camera, judging whether a large truck passes or not by monitoring video information passing through the camera within the time range, and if yes, it is judged that the vehicle is an overweight vehicle. According to the method for identifying the overweight vehicle on the bridge, the problems of high equipment cost, high installation process difficulty and low accuracycaused by single identification standard in the prior art are solved.
