The invention relates to a method for determining a relative angle between a first longitudinal axis (70) of a towing vehicle (12) and a second longitudinal axis (72) of a vehicle (14) that is mechanically coupled to the towing vehicle (12). The method includes the following steps: capturing a light unit (26, 28, 30, 32) arranged on the vehicle (14) by means of a camera unit (22, 24) arranged on the towing vehicle (12), in order to obtain image information of the light unit (26, 28, 30, 32); identifying the light unit (26, 28, 30, 32) in the obtained image data (48, 50) using an optical signal(40, 42, 44, 46) emitted by the captured light unit (26, 28, 30, 32), in order to obtain position information of the light unit (26, 28, 30, 32), wherein the position information represents a spatialposition (52', 58') of the light unit (26, 28, 30, 32) in the image data (48, 50) relative to a defined reference point (60, 66); determining a relative angle between the first longitudinal axis (70)of the towing vehicle (12) and the second longitudinal axis (72) of the vehicle (14) using the position information of the captured light unit (26, 28, 30, 32); and emitting a signal according to thedetermined relative angle.
