The invention discloses a crawling mechanism using a single rope wheel to perform reciprocating motion along a rope, which cooperates with an anchored working rope and comprises a shell, a reducer, amotor, a brake, a battery, a power button, a scram button, a mainframe handle, a rope wheel and a pair of cross-over wheels, wherein the shell comprises a working surface; the mainframe handle is arranged at the shell and controls an output shaft of the motor to rotate forwards or backwards with certain output rotating speed; and a working rope is bent and passes between the pair of cross-over wheels to be arranged at an opposite surface of the rope wheel through sleeving so as to tension and hang the shell. The invention also discloses a usage method of using the crawling mechanism using thesingle rope wheel to perform reciprocating motion along the rope. With the mechanism and the method provided by the invention, moving along a working rope direction with a staff or materials can be realized, frictional resistance of the working rope is low, and the mechanism is convenient and efficient to operate, sensitive and excellent in safety, realizes assault or rescue in multiple direction,such as crossing over, aslant pulling and going up and down perpendicularly, and is suitable for anti-terrorist assault, city rescue, rescue and relief work, field operations, and so on.
