The embodiment of the invention discloses a method and device for traffic signal state speculation based on opposite regular lanes. The speculation method includes steps of obtaining sensor data fromat least one sensor observing an environment of a vehicle configured to operate in an autonomous mode, the environment including traffic signals unconfirmed by the vehicle, the sensor data indicatinga state of at least one other road user in the environment, determining states of other road users of a road with a rule opposite to the current lane in the environment based on the sensor data by utilizing a sensing system, and speculating the state of the unconfirmed traffic signal based on the states of other road users of the road with the opposite rule by using the speculation system.
