The invention belongs to the technical field of aviation structure design, and discloses a large integral side-turning hatch cover driving system and method. Two sets of independent driving electric mechanisms which share one set of hand-cranking backup mechanism through two flexible shafts separately are included. After an electromechanical control box receives a hatch cover opening and closing signal, an unlocking electric mechanism and a lifting electric mechanism are sequentially driven to open and close a hatch cover; if the electric mechanisms cannot normally drive the hatch cover to beopened and closed due to an electrical fault, the hatch cover can be manually driven to move through the hand-cranking mechanism; and the lifting electric mechanism is used for driving the hatch coverto be opened and closed, the unlocking electric mechanism is used for driving a hatch cover movable lock to be locked/unlocked, electric automatic control is adopted for sequential control, unlocking, opening, closing and locking are conducted, and one-key opening and closing of the side-turning type hatch cover are achieved.
