A safe exit warning apparatus and method for an occupant may include: a first sensor detecting a position of the occupant in a vehicle; a second sensor that detects an object approaching from a blind spot of the vehicle; a warning device that warns an occupant that a collision with the object is about to occur; and a controller that determines that an occupant intends to leave the vehicle by monitoring a position of the occupant in the vehicle while the vehicle is stopped and controls the warning device to warn the occupant that a collision is about to occur with an approaching object.
