Systems and methods for laying composite cylindrical structures. The composite barrel is laid on a rotatable mandrel using a laminator that applies the composite material onto the mandrel. The laminators are disposed on opposite sides of the mandrel and apply composite material to a first region of the mandrel while the mandrel remains stationary in the first rotational position. When the laminator applies the composite material to a second region of the mandrel to complete laying, the mandrel is rotated to a second rotational position at which the mandrel remains stationary. During the laying process, the layers in the first and second zones are spliced together.
