A battery management system according to the present invention comprises: a sensing unit for generating a sensing signal representative of a battery voltage and a battery current of a battery; a storage unit for storing a charging map in which first to n-th reference currents (n is a natural number equal to or greater than 2), first to n-th reference voltage ranges, first to n-th reference SOCs, and first to n-th reference voltage curves for multi-stage constant current charging are recorded; and a control unit that, in response to the charging start command, instructs the charging circuit to perform constant current charging by using a kth reference current corresponding to a kth reference voltage range (k is a natural number of n or less) to which the battery voltage belongs. In response to the battery voltage reaching an upper limit of a kth reference voltage range, the control unit updates the charging map by comparing a kth measured voltage curve indicating a correlation between the battery voltage of the battery and the SOC during a charging period of the constant current charging with a kth reference voltage curve.
