The invention relates to a method for controlling a clamping torque for an electromechanical brake (1) of a motor vehicle. The brake (1) comprises a motor (2) provided with a rotating shaft intended to drive a mechanical clamping device (3) of the brake. The method comprises the following steps:-determining an indicator, referred to as a reaction torque observation value (6), characterizing at least one reaction of the mechanical clamping means (3) of the brake, as a function of the rotational speed (7) of the rotating shaft of the electric machine (2) and of the intensity (8) of the supply current of the electric machine (2); and-adjusting the clamping torque of the brake as a function of the reaction torque observation.
