The method comprises the following steps: periodically obtaining a hard wire signal and/or a CAN signal representing the opening and closing requirements of gear character background light; and on the basis of the acquired hard wire signal and/or CAN signal, carrying out on-off control on the background light of the gear character of the electronic gear shifter and carrying out regulation control on the brightness level of the background light of the gear character of the electronic gear shifter.
