The invention relates to a method for controlling a brake system (1) comprising a linear actuator (5) and a hydraulic pump (26). In order to quickly build up the pressure, the linear actuator (5) and the hydraulic pump (26) are switched to operate synchronously when the rate of change of the brake request signal is greater than a threshold value. The invention also relates to a brake system (1) for a motor vehicle.
