The invention relates to monitoring aircraft turbulence using data of a broadcast automatic dependent surveillance (ADS-B) receiver. A method of managing flight of an aircraft is provided. The method includes receiving a data stream from a broadcast automatic dependent surveillance (ADS-B) receiver during flight, and the data stream includes an ADS-B message, a geographic location of the aircraft, and attitude reference system (AHRS) data. The method includes accessing data indicative of the weight of the aircraft, identifying force events experienced by the aircraft based on the geographic location, the AHRS data, and the weight of the aircraft, and classifying the force events as turbulent events or non-turbulent events by levels of the force events and by types of the force events. And outputting a report indicative of the classification of the force event at least when the force event is classified as a turbulent event.
