A valve unit (10) for an anti-lock brake system has a single hydraulic chamber (15) configured to receive brake fluid, the single hydraulic chamber having a delivery port (14) supplying brake fluid to a brake caliper (G) and a passage (50) allowing brake fluid from a main cylinder (M) to enter the single hydraulic chamber (15). A single piston (18), which is movable in the longitudinal direction within the single hydraulic chamber (15), has a first transverse surface facing the delivery opening and defining a first transverse region as a whole, and has a second transverse surface facing away from the delivery opening (14) and defining a second transverse region as a whole, the second transverse region being larger than the first transverse region. The longitudinal cavity (31) extends in a single piston (18) establishing fluid communication between the first and second transverse surfaces, whereby displacement of the piston towards the delivery port (14) obstructs the passage (50) and increments the volume available for brake fluid in the hydraulic chamber.
