The invention relates to the field of vehicle following control, and discloses a vehicle following system stability control method considering driver characteristics, which comprises the following steps: 1) establishing an optimized speed model of a vehicle following system according to multi-preceding vehicle information and driver response characteristics; 2) designing a stability control method of the vehicle following system according to the optimized speed model and the current vehicle distance; 3) calculating the adjusting speed of each vehicle according to the control method and the following state of the current vehicle; 4) determining the acceleration of each vehicle according to the adjustment speed and the acceleration response characteristics of the driver; 5) updating the position and speed of the vehicle based on the calculated acceleration; and (6) repeating the steps (3) to (5) until a stable state is achieved. According to the method, the vehicle information and the driver behavior data are acquired in real time, and the advanced control algorithm and the model prediction technology are combined, so that the precise control and optimization of the vehicle following behavior can be realized.
