Intelligent vehicle systems for thermal event mitigation for closed vehicles, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such intelligent control systems are presented. A method of operating a host vehicle includes verifying a resident or remote vehicle controller in which the host vehicle is stationary; if stationary, the controller detects a predicted onset or occurrence of a thermal event in at least one unit in a battery system of the vehicle. In response to the detected thermal event, the controller calculates a Parking Vehicle (VPES) confidence value in an enclosed space predicted that the host vehicle is at least partially enclosed, and determines whether the VPES confidence value is greater than a preset minimum confidence level. In response to the detected thermal event and the VPES confidence value exceeding the minimum confidence level, the controller transmits a command signal to the resident vehicle subsystem to perform a vehicle control operation that mitigates the thermal event.
