The invention relates to a method for determining the availability of an electrical energy store having at least one electrical energy store cell and at least one sensor, in which a required power characteristic for the electrical energy store is specified, in particular the required power is determined by means of the required power characteristic, the expected voltage of the electrical energy store is compared with a minimum voltage limit value of the electrical energy store and/or the current minimum state of charge (SOCmin) is compared with a state of charge (SOCtab) of the electrical energy store necessary for the required power characteristic, the result of the comparison being output, in particular, whether the electrical energy store has the availability necessary for the required power characteristic is determined.
