The invention relates to a method for operating a parking assistance system (100) of a parking installation (101). The parking facility provides a plurality of parking spaces (120) for the autonomous driving vehicle (202) in a designated area (110) and comprises a transfer zone (130) for transferring the vehicle (202) from the user (300) to the parking assistance system (100) or vice versa. The method comprises the following steps: receiving (S1), from a user (300) of the vehicle (202), a request (REQ) for using the parking facility (101) within a determined time interval, the request (REQ) comprising at least one transfer time; determining (S2) a first expected capacity utilization of the parking facility (101) at the transition time based on the plurality of capacity utilization parameters; comparing (S3) the determined first expected capacity utilization with the determined capacity utilization threshold, determining (S4) an alternative transfer time based on the comparison, the alternative transfer time is determined such that a second expected capacity utilization of the alternative transfer time is lower than the first expected capacity utilization and/or lower than or equal to the determined capacity utilization threshold; and sending (S5) a message (MSG) comprising the alternative transfer time to the user (300).
