The invention relates to an inverter (100) for an electrical drive train (300), the inverter (100) comprising an input connection (102) for connecting an energy source (104) and for connecting a parallel charging device (106) for charging the energy source (104), an output connection (112) for connecting a multi-phase electric machine (114) and a plurality of switching elements (120Px, 120Nx) of a bridge circuit. The inverter (100) is designed to open the switching elements (120Px, 120Nx) during charging of the energy source (104) by means of the charging device (106).
