The invention discloses an on-line bidirectional active equalization method and system for a vehicle in-service power battery, and the method comprises the following steps: grouping a plurality of single batteries, configuring an active equalization module in each group, and collecting the voltage, current and temperature data of the batteries in the group by the active equalization modules; the SOC of the battery pack and the SOC of each single battery are obtained; and the active equalization module performs equalization control on the battery capacity according to a multivariable coordination equalization control strategy. The method has the advantages that the goals of fully and reasonably utilizing the single batteries, prolonging the service life of the battery pack, improving the running efficiency of the whole vehicle and the like are achieved through bidirectional active equalization of the power batteries, and the method has important theoretical research significance and engineering application value.
