A control system (100, 200) for a vehicle suspension system of a vehicle (700). The vehicle suspension system includes an actuator coupled to the anti-roll bar. The control system is configured to: receive a vehicle rest signal (304, 404) indicating that the vehicle is at rest; outputting a passive state request signal (306) to an actuator of the vehicle suspension system in accordance with the reception of the vehicle rest signal, where the passive state request signal is configured to prevent the actuator from responding to the received torque demand; receiving a passive state acknowledgement signal indicating that the actuator is in a passive state (308); outputting a torque demand (310) to the actuator in accordance with the passive state acknowledgement signal; receiving a sensor response signal (312) from a sensor configured to sense a torque level of the anti-roll bar; and outputting a fault signal (316) in accordance with receiving the sensor response signal indicating that the torque level of the anti-roll bar is above a predetermined threshold.
