The invention relates to a system, method and apparatus for predictive maintenance of an automotive transmission of a vehicle. For example, a transmission has at least one sensor for measuring a temperature of transmission oil, a torque applied to a shaft of the transmission, a vibration sensor, and/or a microphone. During a period in which the vehicle is assumed to be in normal operation, sensor data generated by a transmission sensor is used to train an artificial neural network to identify a normal pattern of the sensor data. The trained artificial neural network is then used to determine if the current sensor data from the transmission sensor is abnormal. Maintenance alerts for the vehicle may be generated in response to determining an operational anomaly of the transmission from the artificial neural network and the current sensor data.
