The car-following time interval control method comprises the steps that a current driving scene and a current driver control gain are obtained in response to the fact that an automatic car-following function is started, the speed of a front car is changed after the automatic car-following function is started, or the distance of a following car is changed after the automatic car-following function is started; the control gain is used for representing the relation between the acceleration and the relative speed, and the relative speed is the difference value between the speed of the vehicle and the speed of the front vehicle; determining a car following time interval corresponding to the current driving scene and the current driver control gain according to a mapping relation among the driving scene, the driver control gain and the car following time interval; the driving scene comprises a congestion scene and a non-congestion scene; and controlling the vehicle to run along with the vehicle according to the vehicle following time interval. According to the method and the device, the automatic car-following driving can better fit the driving habit or driving style of the current driver, and the driver does not need to manually confirm or adjust the car-following time interval.
