The invention provides a non-contact breakage detection device for a comb plate, which is not easily influenced by dirt of a ladder plate of a passenger conveyor. A damage detection device (8) is provided with an anti-slip section (12), a plurality of electrode pairs (139), a measurement section (16), and a detection section (17). An anti-slip part (12) made of an insulator is mounted on the upper surface of the step plate (6). The anti-slip section (12) has a plurality of groove sections (19) arranged side by side in the left-right direction so as to be parallel to each other in the front-back direction. The pair of electrodes (13) is disposed on the groove wall in the groove portion (19) so as to face each other in the left-right direction. The measuring unit (16) measures the capacitance between the electrode pairs (13). The detection unit (17) detects damage to the comb teeth (11) passing through the groove portion (19) when the amount of change in capacitance measured with respect to the electrode pair (13) disposed in any one of the groove portions (19) while the step plate (6) passes through the comb plate (4) is less than a preset threshold value.
