The invention relates to the technical field of ocean engineering facilities, in particular to a universal function module design process and method suitable for FPSO. The method comprises the following steps that S1, a universal FPSO ship body is selected according to the oil and gas treatment scale, the operation sea area sea condition and the mooring mode; s2, selecting a general function module by comprehensively considering environmental data, a technological process and ship body scale parameters; s3, classifying and combining the modules selected in the S2 according to processes and functions; s4, arranging the selected function modules according to the security division; s5, carrying out connection design of pipelines and electric/instrument cables among the modules; and S6, overall design and adaptive adjustment are completed, and building construction is carried out after rechecking and confirmation. By selecting the universal function module, the existing mature technology and standard can be utilized, and the time and cost of design and manufacturing are reduced. And through safety division and risk assessment, sufficient isolation measures between the high-risk module and the low-risk module are ensured, and the risk of accidents is reduced.
