Provided are a recovery assistance system and a recovery assistance method with which it is possible to more easily recover lost items located in a hoistway of an elevator. In a recovery assistance system (20), a detection unit (25) detects that a lost item (16) is located in a hoistway (3) on the basis of a wireless signal received by a receiver (21) attached to the outside of a car (9) from a transmitter (18) attached to the lost item (16) located in the hoistway (3). The acquisition unit (24) acquires position information of the car (9) when the receiver (21) receives the wireless signal from the transmitter (18). When the detection unit (25) detects that the lost property (16) is located in the hoistway (3), the determination unit (26) determines the position of the lost property (16) in the vertical direction in the hoistway (3) on the basis of the position information of the car (9) acquired by the acquisition unit (24). A notification unit (27) notifies the position of the lost item (16) determined by the determination unit (26).
