The invention relates to a method for pattern recognition in a drive cycle. Here, the method comprises (a) selecting a number of samples from a plurality of sensor data sets, where each sensor data set represents a drive cycle. Thereafter, (b) unsupervised pattern recognition is performed within the number of samples to identify a pattern. Furthermore, (c) supervised pattern recognition is performed within the remaining sensor data sets of the plurality of sensor data sets to again identify a pattern; and (d) determining, for each of the plurality of sensor data sets, a degree of correspondence of the sensor data set to the pattern. In this case, steps (a) to (d) are repeatedly carried out until each correspondence degree exceeds a correspondence degree threshold value.
