The invention relates to a muffler (1) for a compressed air system, comprising: an air inlet (3) for a compressed air flow, a first muffling device (4) arranged downstream of the air inlet (3); a second muffling device (6) arranged downstream of the first muffling device (4); a grille (8) arranged downstream of the second muffling device (6), the grille comprising at least two channels (9) through which the compressed air flow is adapted to exit the muffler (1), where the first muffling device (4) has a smaller diameter than the second muffling device (6), and where the first muffling device (4) has a smaller diameter than the second muffling device (6). The second muffler device (6) has at least partially a higher density than the first muffler device (4). Such an improved muffler (1) is able to perform sound attenuation suitable for specific requirements (e.g., technical guidelines, standards), thus enabling lower noise compared to systems in the prior art.
