The invention relates to a shifting fork type steering engine maintenance method, which comprises the following steps of: 1, firstly, adjusting a tiller to a zero position of a rudder pushing mechanism, and then, fixedly connecting the tiller with an upper rudder bearing; 2, the center of the rudder pushing mechanism coincides with the center of the tiller; thirdly, the sliding block and the lining plate are dismantled, the flatness of the installation face of each part is detected, and it is ensured that the flatness of the installation face meets the requirement; fourthly, the sliding block with the qualified flatness and the lining plate are installed again; fifthly, an adjusting gasket is additionally arranged between the lining plate and the sliding block according to the gap value by taking the plane of the tiller shifting fork as the reference; and sixthly, after an adjusting gasket, a lining plate and a sliding block are fixed into a whole, the adjusting gasket, the lining plate and the sliding block are placed in a corresponding tiller shifting fork, then the gap between the tiller and the sliding block is adjusted till the gap meets the installation requirement, and then the sliding block and a plunger are fixedly connected through a plunger pin. Therefore, according to the design, the gap between the tiller shifting fork and the sliding block of the shifting fork type steering engine can be maintained.
