A high voltage (HV) electrical system architecture for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging of a vehicle battery, a method for making/using such a system, and a vehicle equipped with such a system are presented. An HV electrical system for a motor vehicle includes a main HV bus electrically connecting traction motor (s) of the vehicle to battery pack (s) of the vehicle, and a charging inlet port electrically cooperating with and receiving direct current (DC) power from DC fast charge (DCFC) cables of a donor vehicle and a charging station. A DC-to-DC (DC-DC) converter is interposed between the charging inlet port and the main HV bus, and electrically connects the charging inlet port to the main HV bus. The DC-DC converter is operable in a bypass mode in which the DC-DC converter delivers DC power received from the DCFC cable of the charging station therethrough, and a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) mode in which the DC-DC converter regulates DC power received from the DCFC cable of the donor vehicle.
