It is an object of this invention to provide a synchronous machine control apparatus which can produce a torque of which level is as close as possible to a desired torque command level while taking into consideration limitations on an output current of a power conversion unit. A synchronous machine control apparatus includes a torque current command generator 9 including a torque current calculator 15 for calculating a torque current command i´** from a torque command Ä* and a flux command Æ*, a torque current limit generator 14 for generating a maximum torque current command value i´*max which can be generated based on a magnetizing current command i³* and a current limit value imax, and a limiter for imposing limitations on i´** based on i´*max, a flux command generator 10 for calculating the flux command Æ* based on i´* fed from the torque current command generator 9, a flux calculator 5 for calculating an interlinked armature flux feedback value |¦| based on an armature current feedback value, and a flux controller 13 for generating the magnetizing current command i³* such that Æ* and |¦| coincide with each other and delivering i³* to the torque current command generator 9.
