A field unit for detecting and warning an aircraft of an obstacle is provided. The field unit comprises a central processing unit and a radar system. The radar system comprises a radar antenna (120) for radar detection of an aircraft in a radar coverage area, the radar antenna comprising a plurality of antenna panels (110), each comprising a plurality of radiating antenna elements (111). The antenna panels are arranged as the sides of an octagon. Radar electronics are provided in communication with the radar antenna to form the radar system for detection of an aircraft in a radar coverage area. The central processing unit is in communication with the radar system for processing information from the radar system, which information includes at least one indication of direction and several indications of distance or at least one indication of direction, one indication of distance and one indication of speed, and for identifying a radar system detected aircraft that is in a zone of the radar coverage area computed by the central processing unit as a collision danger area on the basis of the information.
