Between an outer circumferential surface of a tip side bearing (9a) externally fitted into and supported by a tip portion of a worm shaft (6a) and an inner circumferential surface of a holding recessed portion (10a) of a housing (3a), a guide piece (30) is disposed in a state where a displacement in a circumferential direction is blocked and a wedge piece (39) is disposed in a state where a displacement in the circumferential direction is allowed. A structure is adopted that removes backlash of a meshing portion by biasing the outer circumferential surface of the tip side bearing (9a) toward a worm wheel (4) side with a wedge surface (45) disposed on an inner circumferential surface of the wedge piece (39) and a guide surface disposed on an inner circumferential surface of the guide piece (30) based on a displacement of the wedge piece (39) in the circumferential direction using elastic force of a coil spring (28) for a wedge piece. Then, a structure is realized that suppresses a displacement of worm teeth in relation to a direction perpendicular to a meshing direction of the worm teeth and the worm wheel and an axial direction of the worm shaft and suppresses the generation of a rattling noise in the meshing portion when rotational vibration is applied from a wheel side to a rotating shaft for steering.
