An aircraft door system (1) is disclosed which includes a frame structure (10) defining an aperture (11), an aircraft door (20) including an area member (21) formed as a multi-layered composite structure including multiple actuator layers (21A; 21B) each of which comprising an electroactive polymer material that is excitable to an excited state by an electrical voltage, and an electrical connection interface (22), and a pivoting device (30) being coupled to the frame structure (10) and the aircraft door (20). Further, a method for opening and closing an aircraft door (20) and an use of an area member (21) including an electroactive polymer as an aircraft door (20) disclosed.
