The invention relates to a driver assistance method for a motor vehicle during which, whenever it is detected that said vehicle unexpectedly leaves the traffic lane that it was traveling in, an intervention phase is triggered during which a corrective torque (TC) is applied to a steering member (OD) of this vehicle so that the motor vehicle follows a target path, said corrective torque being determined on the basis of a filtered target steering angle (αCF) that is calculated: to be, at an initial time of said intervention phase, equal to an effective steering angle (αE) of this steering member, then to approach, after this initial time, a target steering angle (αC) in which said steering member should be positioned so that the motor vehicle follows said target path.
