The present invention provides a method for improving battery charging efficiency and preventing overcharging, and as a method of preventing overcharging of a battery, the method includes an overcharge detection step that detects overcharge by checking the state of charge of the battery when charging the battery, a reduction output power calculation step that calculates the average input power input to the battery during overcharging and calculates the power to be reduced and output by the charger based on the calculated average input power, an output power reduction request step of requesting an output power reduction to a charger based on the calculated reduction output power, a reduction power output step in which the charger receiving the reduction request outputs the reduced power, an overcharge battery power consumption step in which insufficient power input to the E-PTO with the reduced output power of the charger is supplied from the battery to consume the power of the overcharged battery, and a normal power output step in which the charger outputs normal power again when power of the overcharged battery is consumed and a charging state of the battery is not an overcharging state, wherein the reduction charging power output step and the normal power output step are repeated based on a battery charging state, so that it may improve battery charging efficiency and prevent overcharging.
