A security device for a work vehicle comprises collecting a biometric identifier (e.g. operator’s face or fingerprint) from an operator 110 using a biometric identification device (e.g. facial recognition device or fingerprint reader in a smartphone or device mounted on the vehicle) and checking the identifier against a list of authorised operators 120. If the operator is authorised, access to the vehicle is enabled 130 and a profile linked to the operator is activated 140, and preferable operator settings may be loaded. Current machine data (e.g. rate of battery discharge) is recorded against the profile for the current session, and targeted information (e.g. expected battery life or expected date of service or coaching for improving operator performance) is provided to the operator based on prior data (e.g. battery discharge data) from previous sessions and preferably current machine data. If the operator is unauthorised, access to the vehicle is prevented 150.
