A system 5 including a computer 8 having a processor and a memory storing instructions executable by the processor such that the computer is programmed to: receive an image of at least one lane marker from an image capture device 12 mounted to a vehicle 10, identify a lane transition location according to the image and control at least one of steering, braking, and acceleration of the vehicle according to a history of data concerning the lane transition location. Also disclosed is a method comprised of receiving an image of at least one lane marker from an image capture device mounted to a vehicle, confirming the image meets a predetermined criterion as a detected lane marking, determining the type of lane marker and determining if the pattern of the lane marker has changed from a previous image, before comparing the pattern to a set of geolocations (which may be obtained from GPS/UTM/MGRS/UPS) and their characteristics that are stored in a memory (see fig. 3), and controlling at least one of steering, braking, and acceleration of the vehicle as the vehicle egresses a highway.
