A drive system 10 for electric or hybrid vehicles, comprising: a first input shaft 24 rotatable about a first input axis 36; a second input shaft 52 rotatable about a second input axis 37; a first output shaft 16, wherein the first output shaft 16 is rotatable about a first output axis 76, a second output shaft 18, wherein the second output shaft 18 is rotatable about a second output axis 92, wherein the first input axis 36 and the second input axis 37 are axially misaligned, wherein the first output axis 76 and the second output axis 92 are coaxially aligned. One or more lay shafts (120,136 see fig 3) may be provided. The input axes 36,37 may be angled (see fig 3) to the coaxial output axes 76,92. The drive system 10 provides for compactness, thus addressing torque density and the avoidance of added weight.
