A method of determining a steering angle of an aircraft landing gear 10, the method comprises: obtaining an image of the aircraft landing gear 10; performing edge detection on the image; determining a relative position of a component (e.g. the tread 14 of a tyre 11 or a torque link [13, fig. 3]) of the aircraft landing gear 10; and determining the steering angle of the aircraft landing gear 10. The steering angle may be determined by using the edge detection to determine the relative position of the component to an imaging device (i.e. a camera) 15. Prior to performing the edge detection, steps of: filtering to greyscale; applying gamma correction; and applying a threshold may also be performed on the image. Also disclosed are: an aircraft controller configure to perform the above steps; and a system for determining a steering angle having an imaging device 15 and the above controller.
