PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve collision detection performance with a simple configuration and with simple processing.SOLUTION: When a motor vehicle on which a passenger rides collides against a vehicle bumper, an effective mass calculated from a deformation amount of the vehicle bumper exhibits characteristics (50) that include a characteristic 52 of a low effective mass due to the collision against a wheel of the motor vehicle and a characteristic 54 which appears with a time difference from the former characteristic. If an object detected by an in-vehicle camera is a motor vehicle, a threshold for determining the collision of the object is changed from a threshold (th1) for a pedestrian to a threshold (th2) for detecting the motor vehicle for time (T1) prescribed after detection of the motor vehicle. As a result, even the collision against the motor vehicle on which the passenger rides with the low effective mass can be detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4

    【課題】衝突検出性能を簡単な構成でかつ簡単な処理で向上させる。【解決手段】車両用バンパに、乗員を乗せた二輪車が衝突した場合、車両用バンパの変形量から算出される有効質量は、二輪車の車輪に衝突した小さい有効質量の特性(52)、および時間差をもって現れる特性(54)を含む特性(50)となる。車載カメラから検出される対象物が二輪車の場合に、二輪車の検出後に定めた時間(T1)の間、対象物の衝突を判定する閾値を、歩行者検出用の閾値(th1)から二輪車検出用の閾値(th2)に変更する。これによって、小さい有効質量による乗員を乗せた二輪車に対する衝突であっても、これを検出できる。【選択図】図4
