PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive unit and a power-assisted bicycle in which a resultant force synthesized from a man-power driving force and an auxiliary driving force enables a resultant force transmission body to rotate and rotation of the resultant force transmission body is transmitted to a rear wheel so as to be capable of reducing the load of a motor and a passenger.SOLUTION: A drive unit installed in a power-assisted bicycle comprises: a resultant force transmission body 29 which is rotatable by a resultant force synthesized from a man-power driving force and an auxiliary driving force; a drive power output wheel body 13 to which rotation of the resultant force transmission body 29 is transmitted; and a transmission mechanism 17 which includes a plurality of selectable gear stages with different gear ratios and transmits the drive power to the resultant force transmission body 29. The transmission mechanism 17 comprises: a plurality of transmission gears including a low-speed stage transmission gear 36 and a high-speed stage transmission gear 41; a high speed stage clutch 55 which can transmit the drive power of the high-speed stage transmission gear 41 to the resultant force transmission body 29; and a clutch changeover body 61 which is disengageably connected to the high-speed stage clutch 55 and is shifted according to the selected gear stage.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
