To provide a power converter for a high speed railway vehicle capable of reducing the size and the weight of a main body of the power converter.SOLUTION: A power converter 100 for a high speed railway vehicle includes a power conversion unit 60 including a converter 31 and an inverter 32, which is attached to a power converter body 100a to be detached from a bottom part B of the power converter body 100a installed on a bottom part 11a of a high speed railway vehicle 10 and a charging resistor 21 and an overvoltage suppressing resistor 24, which are arranged in a space S1 between the power conversion unit 60 and a lower surface 51l of the power converter body 100a inside the power converter body 100a and constitute a main circuit 20 other than the power conversion unit 60 without generating heat by energization at all times.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
