To provide an underrun protector of which weight saving can be promoted without reducing impact absorption performance.SOLUTION: This underrun protector has: a bumper beam 2 of a hollow square cross section of which both ends are opened; a thick part 4 formed at four corners of an opening 3 of the bumper beam 2; a cap screw hole 5 which is formed on the thick part 4 from the opening 3 so as not to penetrate an inner face of the bumper beam 2; and an end cap 8 which is mounted to the opening 3 of the bumper beam 2 by a bolt 6 which is screwed into the cap screw hole 5, has a convexed fitting part 7 which is inserted in the opening 3, and tightly closes the opening 3. When the bumper beam 2 receives an impact and is deformed, a part of an impact load F is absorbed by a repulsive force R2 of air which is compressed in association with reduction in an internal volume of the bumper beam 2.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
