To prevent a change in display luminance not desirable for an observer 3 for a sudden change in luminance of a background, and thereby can improve visibility of display information.SOLUTION: A display unit 10A displaying a virtual image 45 (one example of display information) visually recognized by an observer 3 in front of a movable body acquires, at a specific sampling time t, luminance information 450 indicating the luminance of a luminance detection area 300 (one example of peripheral area) including at least part of a display background area 350 (one example of display area) to be the background of the virtual image 45, and detects a change in luminance of the luminance detection area 300 on the basis of the acquired luminance information 450. When detecting a change in luminance, the display unit 10A determines display luminance information 500 indicating the display luminance of the virtual image 45 so that a delay time required for corresponding the display luminance of the virtual image 45 to the luminance of the luminance detection area 300 falls within an allowable delay time T or becomes shorter than the allowable delay time T, and displays the virtual image 45 by using the determined display luminance information 500.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11

    【課題】背景の急激な輝度変化に対して、観察者3にとって望ましくない表示輝度の変化を抑制することで、表示情報の視認性を向上させることができる。【解決手段】移動体の前方に観察者3が視認する虚像45(表示情報の一例)を表示させる表示装置10Aは、虚像45の背景となる表示背景領域350(表示領域の一例)の少なくとも一部を含む輝度検出領域300(周辺領域の一例)の輝度を示す輝度情報450を、特定のサンプリング時間tで取得し、取得した輝度情報450に基づいて、輝度検出領域300の輝度変化を検出する。そして、表示装置10Aは、輝度変化を検出した場合、虚像45の表示輝度を輝度検出領域300の輝度に対応させるまでの遅延時間が、遅延許容時間T以内または遅延許容時間Tより短くなるように、虚像45の表示輝度を示す表示輝度情報500を決定し、決定した表示輝度情報500を用いて、虚像45を表示させる。【選択図】図11
